Syzygia vs Hermes Agent

Hermes Agent is Nous Research’s open-source (MIT) agent that you host yourself — on a laptop, a small server or serverless sandboxes — and reach from the terminal or messaging apps such as Telegram, Discord, Slack or WhatsApp. It keeps memory across sessions and creates its own skills. Syzygia is a managed Agentic Operating System (Agentic OS) for companies, with role-based agents. Hermes Agent suits technical people who want to run and shape their own agent; Syzygia suits companies that want departments staffed by specialists.

How it’s organized

Who does the work, and how it’s organized

Syzygia: a staffed department

Syzzy, your CEO agent, coordinates specialists in each department. They work on schedules, delegate to each other and ask before anything important.

Self-hosted · open source (MIT)

Hermes Agent: your own agent that learns

You host it and talk to it from the terminal or chat apps; it keeps memory and creates skills as it works.

Inside Syzygia

What the work looks like in Syzygia

Not a blank chat and not a flowchart: agents with a role, a schedule and a person approving what matters.

Ask, then approve

Ask Syzzy in plain language. Agents prepare the work and wait for your go-ahead: on every action in Ask mode, and always on payments.

Briefs on WhatsApp and email

Scheduled tasks run on their own — like a daily “bills due” report at 08:00 — and land where you already are.

The cost of every execution

Each execution shows the credits it used, and the agent’s tier caps what a single execution can spend.

Which one, for which job

Both are good tools. They are built for different jobs.

Pick Hermes Agent if…

  • You want open source you can host, read and change.
  • You want one agent you can reach from the terminal and many chat apps.
  • You like an agent that builds up its own skills and memory as you use it.

Pick Syzygia if…

  • Several people and departments need the same agents, with roles and permissions.
  • You want a managed service: nothing to install, update or host.
  • You want ready-made specialists with their own books and pages — a ledger, payables, a CRM.
Running both? A personal, self-hosted agent and a company workforce solve different problems; a technical team could run both.

Questions we hear

Which teams get more out of Syzygia than out of Hermes Agent?

When several people need the same agents with roles and permissions, when you want a managed service with nothing to install or host, and when you want ready-made specialists for finance, sales, marketing or operations instead of shaping one agent yourself.

Is Hermes Agent ever the better pick?

When you want open-source software you host and change yourself, one agent you can reach from the terminal and many chat apps, and an agent that builds up its own skills and memory.

What does each one cost?

Hermes Agent is free software under the MIT license; you pay for your model provider and hosting. Syzygia has two monthly plans with Syzygia Credits included — Personal $99 and Ramp-up $400 — and a Custom plan for larger teams; each execution is capped by the agent’s tier.

Do they work side by side?

Yes. A technical team can run Hermes Agent for its own work while business teams use Syzygia agents.

How do approvals work in Syzygia?

Each conversation runs in Ask or Auto mode; in Ask mode the agent waits for your OK before every action. Payments always wait for a person to approve them in the Hub, and publishing can too: each publishing agent has an “Approval before publishing” setting. Every execution is logged with the credits it used.
